WONDERING: Rovers' boss Ronnie Moore

NOW that the curtain has come down on Tranmere Rovers' fruitless campaign in the Coca-Cola League One season, manager Ronnie Moore is focused on next season's promotion attempt.

Tranmere lost their final game of the season 2-1 at Northampton on Saturday, leaving a frustrated Moore having to be content with ninth place in the table with 67 points.

Although disappointed, the Prenton Park boss is working on plans and preparations for next season - even though he is in the dark about his own position at the club.

His two-year contract expires this summer.

As reported in the Globe, speculative reports last week suggested that Prenton Park may be about to fall into the hands of foreign businessmen.

The group behind the alleged move, Portuguese Best Holdings SGPS, is believed to to be responsible for an aborted takeover attempt at another League One club, Swindon Town, last year.

Rovers, despite repeated requests to clarify the situation, have remained totally silent and have chosen neither to confirm nor deny the reports.

Owner Peter Johnson has also made himself unavailable for comment.

Moore, who joined the club in June 2006, said: "In this game, as a manager you don't really get involved in what goes on off the pitch - it's my job to get the lads out onto the pitch to get the goals and I'm working on plans for next season."

Reflecting on Saturday's game, Moore said: "I don't know whether disappointment or frustration are the right words to describe how I'm feeling.

"It would have been good to finish the season on a high in eighth place . . ."
