Wirral's area commander Chief Supt Jon Ward said: "I am delighted that Wirral has achieved such significant reductions in crime and anti-social behaviour.
"This is a reflection of some great work by not only the policing team on the Wirral, but also our wider partners and the community on the Wirral, who have supported us and often provided invaluable information to allow us to target offenders."

That's good news for all - can I way well done to the Police.
Now what is required is a greater effort to catch and stop the persistent offenders who are causing the remaining crime.

I am not swallowing this, prove it. Who got these figures together? who are they working for?. Figures, percentages, quotes and soundbites are all ways of making Mr and Mrs middle England sleep soundly when the reality out on the street is completely different. I called the police 8 times last year over incidents involving drunk abusive youths and only had them turn up once, so where is the figure for amount of times people where left swinging because there is not enough officers to cope with demand????? its all lies.

All this proves is that fewer crimes are reported. Statistics could be used to prove day was night.

Crime rate is only down because people are not reporting it, because like me they are thinking "What's the point in reporting it because nothing get's done".

I have to say that the Local Police in our area are doing a great job. They listen to their community and try and act upon what they're told. I get fed up with people constantly attacking the police they do a very difficult job, but how can they do anything about crime when people aren't reporting it or turn a blind eye to crime in their area. It's all too easy for people to go in shut their front door and say 'sorry didnt see anything' The responsibility for crime in our area rests with each and every one of us NOT just the Local Police.

Sorry S. from Wallasey, but the responsibility lies solely with the police and the politicians. I have a job and it is in a career I chose to go into and it is not crime prevention, simply because that is NOT the career i chose to go into. The police and politicians are payed for, voted for and responsible for the well being of all citizens. Why should we have a police force if the bloody responsibilty for cutting crime is laid at our doorsteps???? The police choose that career as do the politicians and it is their job to cut crime and not bullsh*t about it, and to accept criticism when its blatantly not working.

All you have to do is read the newspapers & talk to people in your neighbourhood & then compare it with police calls/ incidents that are published by local Police with Statistics for your area...If they are the same, then no worries...If they do not match? Then draw your own conclusions.

If you want to cut crime properly and have more police on our streets - SIMPLE -get rid of these cardboard cutout community officers. They all seem to patrol in pairs - get rid and supply 1 police officer who can deal with things on the streets. We dont need Community Service Officers - we need properly trained police who have the powers to deal with offences. Quality - not quanitity is what is wanted. Then maybe we can make an impact on the figures for real.

It seems to the the women Communty Officers who patrol in pairs in Prenton & Upton. I see the men patrolling by themselves, even at night. Maybe the women are afraid of the dark?
