Tree at root of dispute
 |
| STUMPED: Maria Loughran with remnants of the troublesome tree |
A TREE has proved to be the root of a problem for a couple who have spent the past few months locked in a battle with Wirral Partnership Homes.
Gordon Mayne and Maria Loughran bought a property in Hoylake last November, and soon after moving in they noticed the roots of a tree growing on land adjacent to their house, which is owned by Wirral Partnership Homes, was damaging their eight-foot high boundary wall.
The couple made a formal complaint to the social housing organisation stating they were worried the wall could fall down whilst their young grandchild was visiting.
Wirral Partnership Homes sent its own insurers to inspect the tree and on the their recommendation, arranged for the tree to be cut down and for poison to be injected in to the stump.
But Mr Mayne told the Globe that he had already told Wirral Partnership Homes he was concerned the roots of the tree were now holding the wall up and that if the roots were simply poisoned, the wall would become even more unstable and dangerous.
Mr Mayne said: "It's a beautiful tree and we didn't want it to come to a situation where it had to be cut down.

"Our priority was to ensure the wall was stabilised and we're sure there were ways of doing this without going down this route.
"I had my insurance company look at both the tree and the wall and they confirmed the wall has been damaged by the tree.
"I have sent this information to Wirral Partnership Homes to say that it is their responsibility to fix the wall but so far they have refused to take any action about the wall."
However, Vicky Head, spokeswoman for Wirral Partnership Homes, denies the organisation has received any formal complaints from Mr Mayne showing evidence from his insurance company.
She said: "We take matters such as this very seriously which is why we sent our insurers out to look at the tree and the wall, and which is why on the basis of the report we took the action on the tree.
"If we had received a formal insurance claim from Mr Mayne and his partner to say that the tree had caused the problems to the wall it would be completely against all our policies to not take any action."

A lesson is to be learned here. When dealing with any organisation (especially the council) send ALL communication 'signed for' delivery. You would be very surprised at the sheer amount of mail they '[italic]do not receive[/italic] ';)

Number 1. What makes you people think anyone out there is interested in YOUR problem? Number 2. Ever heard of buyer beware? Number 3. Who cares.

I learned my lesson the hard way.I had a problem that needed to be resolved by the council.Despite months of letters and phone call's to no avail and being transferred from one department to another, I posted a recorded delivery to be 'signed for'.My problem was resolved soon after.

Must be some tree to grow that much since last November and to cause all that structural damage, "Oh! I see" the tree was already growing there. From this we must assume you tried to pull a cheapskate and not have a proper survey done, maybe you did see the tree and thought WPH was a soft touch to remedy what you saw as a problem. So now you know you better get it sorted yourself.
You see I pay rent to WPH and I sure as heck do not pay it so people like you can utilise the money to remedy your mistakes.
Harsh, maybe...True definitely.

I think we should get to the root of this problem. Or do a root cause analysis. If it was my Granchild at risk it would have been done before i moved in and put a child at risk like you are. Its your boundary, get it sorted.

I hope that WPH fight you all the way, as you stated you moved in 4 months ago so maybe you should be looking at the survey people to rectify it's mistake, rather than trying to get tax payers to rectify their mistake.
