Inspector Mick Blease

My name is Inspector Mick Blease and I am the Neighbourhood Inspector for Hoylake Neighbourhood and the Heswall Neighbourhood. I have now been carrying out this joint role for 12 months which has seen benefits for both Neighbourhoods with the migration of staff across the border to assist when the need has arisen as many of the issues faced are similar. We are now at the time of year when we reflect on performance for the past year. I am pleased to report that there have been some fantastic results across our two neighbourhoods that I would like to share with you. There have been a total of 166 less victims (12.5%) of crime across our two Neighbourhoods with the biggest reductions in offences of Burglary and Theft from a motor vehicle. This fall in crime levels against a backdrop of lost resources is an example of how committed officers are in our area, to continually improve to make our area safe. We are constantly looking for new ways to combat crime and anti social behaviour. An example of this innovation will be evident this summer in order to combat "alcohol fuelled" youth related disorder. Currently officers can seize alcoholic drinks from youths. Previously this has been easy due to the branding of the drinks. We have become aware that as a deterrent to this action, certain individuals have hidden the alcohol in an innocent soft drinks container. When officers become suspicious they will now be able to use an alcohol-tracing dipstick to check the contents of the container. During March we see the start of our lighter nights and longer days with the onset of British Summer Time. As a result we start to implement our activities to target anticipated increases in reports of anti-social behaviour and other crimes that are associated with this time of year. It is also a time of year when we become more complacent regarding the security of our own home. As an example, people will take advantage of the warmer weather and start to maintain the garden and leave doors open to the home, which can be an invite to criminals to steal property. Windows may also be left open which are normally closed during the winter months. Car crime is also more prevalent during the summer months as locals and visitors come to the area to view the many beauty spots we have. Please take care to ensure valuables are not left on show by taking them with you. Do not remove the items and then place them in the boot. Your actions may be viewed by a thief. You also need to be of a device that is being used by criminals in Merseyside which blocks the remote control signal when you are locking your car. You need to be sure that if you are using a remote control to lock your car that it has actually done the job. Thieves may be operating in the area and using the blocking device and will steal from your car when you have left it unattended. Finally I would like to praise the work of the Wirral Neighbourhood Watch schemes. Neighbourhood Watch is one of the biggest and most successful crime prevention initiatives ever. Behind it lies a simple idea, and a central value shared by millions of people around the country. We have 369 Coordinators in the Wirral and over 7.5 million members country wide. My name is Kim Plimey. I am a Police Community Support Officer and I currently work in the Heswall ward. I have been with Merseyside Police for 4 years all of which has been performing the role I currently occupy. I enjoy talking to, and meeting local residents and retailers and find this aspect of my work most rewarding. I also take an active part in the local 'Pubwatch' and monthly priority meetings. I thoroughly enjoy my work and take pride in ensuring that day to day tasks are dealt with to a high standard.
