Win a copy of The Platters' new CD . . .
THE Platters were one of America's biggest groups in the 1950s and the Globe has a copy of their greatest hits album to give away in a simple-to-enter contest.
Formed in Los Angeles in 1953, The Platters had 38 hit singles in their home country. Among them were Only You (And You Alone), Smoke Gets In Your Eyes, Unchained Melody, Red Sails In The Sunset and The Great Pretender, which went to number one when it was first released in 1973.
It was re-recorded by Freddie Mercury in 1987 and made it into the top five in the charts.
As well as being popular in their native America, the five-piece also enjoyed huge success in England and have left a lasting impression on the soul-loving British public.
Their huge hit, Twilight Time, which reached number one in the United States and Australia and number three in the UK, features on The Very Best of The Platters, which was released on Monday by UMTV.
We have one copy of the album to give away and for a chance to win it answer this question correctly:-
In which year did Freddie Mercury have a hit with his version of The Great Pretender?
