THE Wallasey-based St Alban's Players will stage their 66th pantomime, an adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen’s The Tinderbox, later this month.
Written and produced by Jerry Brace, the show will be performed at the Floral Pavilion Theatre in New Brighton from Thursday, January 21 to Saturday 23.
Looking ahead to their stage production of Denmark-born Andersen's work author's work, St Alban's players' spokesman Phil Gilroy told the Globe: "This is the world exclusive first production of an adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen’s fairytale and promises to be a show that all the family will enjoy.
"We are keen to carry on providing value for money family entertainment and this year's tickets are competitively priced to ensure as many families as possible can join in the unique cultural event of Pantomime.
"A feature of our preparations this year has been a partnership with The Oldershaw School Art Department, who have spent the Autumn Term designing and painting some of our scenery.
"This is the first time we have used an external organisation in this way and we hope this partnership will continue.
"Another feature of the show is that it will be the first time we have had three members of the same family on stage at the same time through Hans Nielsen, Angus Hall and the dog."
Performances start at 7.15pm with a Saturday matinee at 2.15pm.
Tickets are from the Floral Pavilion and Pacific Road Art Centre box offices, online at www.floralpavilion.com and by phoning 0151 666 0000.
The society’s first pantomime, Aladdin, was staged in 1935. Apart from a 10-year break during and after the Second World War they have produced a pantomime each year since.
Last year they produced the first amateur performance on the new Floral Pavilion stage, Rumpelstiltskin.
The society is fortunate to be one of the only amateur dramatic groups with its own clubhouse, enabling rehearsals to take place easily.
This year sees a refurbishment of the facilities, with the addition of a portable 20 square metre stage.
New members are welcome to join the society. If you are interested in joining, email stalbansplayers@hotmail.co.uk
