Monilli Primitivo 2009, £7.99, Majestic

After the sad demise of Oddbins it's good to see that Majestic's wine warehouses are continuing to score in the battle to stop a handful of supermarkets getting total domination of the national retailing business, writes Nick Nunn.

This Italian red is a tasty example of why they are still there.

It really is smooth, full of plummy flavours and a great example of what they can do in the south eastern region of Puglia with the native Primitivo grape while keeping alcohol at 13%.

Chapel Down Flint Dry 2009, £7.99, Majestic

Chapel Down is probably England's best known wine brand and good harvests of the past few years have helped the Tenterden, Kent business win an international reputation, beating even the French at white wine-making.

Flint Dry is a great name for the steely, crisp blend of English grapes which is crisp and has lovely apple and greengage flavours.

The price is a real bargain for a 12% alcohol wine that is seriously good.
