Benedict Cumberbatch is pretty brilliant at acting – luckily for him – and he’s also fantastic at narrating TV programmes, as it turns out.

The Doctor Strange star appeared on Nick Grimshaw’s Radio 1 Breakfast Show and happily acted as a commentator for Judge Robert Rinder’s latest Strictly Come Dancing routine.

This might seem a bit random, but Benedict and Judge Rinder are very close friends, something the Hollywood star reminded radio listeners of before he took on the challenge.

Nick joked that, because they are pals, Benedict had the right to “destroy him” but the Sherlock star opted to go for a far more pleasant commentary.

Highlights included him repeating “his knees are going, his knees are going”, and mentioning how well the TV barrister was doing for not kicking his dance partner Oksana Platero.

He also accidentally called Judge Rinder’s hips “ships”, brushing past the moment with panache.

“He’s bugling, he’s bugling, what’s not to like about a bit of bugling?” he asked, staring at the screen as he did his best to speak quickly to keep up with the speedy Jive routine.

Benedict quipped about Judge Rinder’s shirt buttoned to reveal his chest, “an obligatory look for dancers on the show”.

The fact that Mr Cumberbatch is not only a fan of Strictly Come Dancing, and also clearly the BBC show’s missing commentator, is perhaps the best thing we’ve heard all week.
