The decomposing body of Callum Logan has been discovered, leaving Coronation Street reeling with shock.

Thursday night’s episode saw two storylines come to a head, as Carla Connor, played by Alison King, departed after ten years on the cobbles.

The Platts are also facing an uncertain future after the police opened a murder investigation.

David Platt (Jack P Shepherd), his wife Kylie (Paula Lane) and his sister Sarah (Tina O’Brien) were distraught when the corpse they had hidden suddenly came to light.

During Coronation Street’s one-hour live special last September, Callum was killed by his former girlfriend Kylie as she rushed to the aid of Sarah.

The body was buried beneath the floor, but Fiz Brown (Jennie McAlpine) and mechanic Tyrone Dobbs (Alan Halsall) crashed into the Platt house in a truck – and the accident opened up the burial site.

After examining the crash site, David told the rest of the Platts: “The manhole’s caved in because of the weight of the truck… As soon as you walk in the room you can smell him.”

It was not long before police were called, and the discovery of the body caused horror and curiosity across Weatherfield.

An upset Gail Rodwell (Helen Worth) asked a policeman: “In my house? Under my bed?”

Cracks began to show in the Platt family, as David considered fleeing town with his wife and children, while Kylie wanted to come clean.

“I confess. It’s mitigating circumstances,” she said, before telling Sarah that they will not be able to keep their story straight: “Sarah you can’t be trusted. You’re a wreck. Sorry but it’s true.”

All David’s hopes of leaving the country were dashed when a detective informed the Platts that they believed the body was Callum’s, and were opening a murder investigation.

As the Platts deal with their trauma, Carla will attempt to move on in the aftermath of her disastrous wedding to Nick Tilsley (Ben Price) – and that involves moving away from Weatherfield.

In Wednesday’s episode, Carla sparked a shocking chain of events when she attempted to run over sworn enemy Tracy Barlow (Kate Ford).

Blaming Tracy for ruining her wedding to Nick by sharing details about her past infidelity, Carla’s vengeful action instead resulted in Cathy Matthews (Melanie Hill) lying injured in the road.

Cathy was forgiving when a tearful Carla visited her in hospital, but Roy Cropper (David Neilson) was less so.

However, at the last minute he went to say goodbye, telling Carla: “You are who you are. Don’t lose that. Perhaps you could learn to love yourself as much as we all love you. It’s a fresh start. Calmer waters.”

Carla also said goodbye to her father Johnny Connor (Richard Hawley), who told her: “I wish I’d been better, braver, sooner.”

There was no healing between Tracy and Carla as they said their goodbyes.

A downbeat Carla said: “Open goal, Barlow. Hit me,” before adding: “It suddenly struck me. Did you really want to be me? Because it’s not all it’s cracked up to be.”

But there was no sympathy from Tracy.

Carla then drove off to her new life in Devon, bringing to a close a decade on the ITV soap.
