Caroline Flack may be the host of Love Island, but she’s admitted that her matchmaking skills aren’t always up to scratch.
The Strictly Come Dancing winner and new X Factor host has been brought in to front the revamped dating series for ITV2, which sees a group of 12 single men and women sent to a Mallorcan villa and then whittled down to just two in a search for a potential new couple who could fall in love.
But Caroline revealed she was not always the best judge of character: “I have match made before, a couple of times. Sometimes I get it really wrong. I remember dating a guy once and thinking, ‘He’s not my type,’ and thought, ‘But my friend would like him’.
“So I let her go on a date with him afterwards. She was so insulted though after she’d been on the date with him.”
She also said that over-the-top romantic gestures were a turn-off for her.
Caroline explained: “I don’t like anything too set up, as that can get a bit awkward. I went to a hotel with my boyfriend at the time and as a surprise the hotel gave us our own table in the middle of the band stand, surrounded by violinists and rose petals.
“Everyone else was eating off the band stand – it was the most awkward experience.”
Love Island launches on ITV2 on Sunday, June 7 at 9pm.
