Ben Miller has said working on film What We Did On Our Holiday gave him a masterclass in arguing from David Tennant, and comedy from Billy Connolly.

The comedian plays David's character's brother in the film, about a family who get together to celebrate their dad's (played by Billy) 70th birthday, only for him to die while he is at the beach with his grandchildren.

He said of working with David: "David's just an incredible actor, absolutely brilliant. I had lots of rows with him in the film which was great fun and a lot of the film was improvised, which was fun because he's got a really wicked sense of humour, he's really sharp and really quick.

"I loved rowing with David Tennant, it was really good fun because he always had a better comeback than I did - whatever I said, he would top it and that's the kind of argument you want to have, where the other person won't back down. He was just fantastic."

Ben added of shooting in Scotland with Billy: "Billy Connolly is an absolutely amazing person, just extraordinary, so funny, and to be in Scotland with Billy Connolly is probably like David Attenborough being kidnapped by gorillas and being taken to the tree tops in the jungle, it's extraordinary.

"He walks down the street and there's a crowd of people instantly and he's so funny. So people will say, 'Hi Billy, how are you?' and he'll say, 'I feel like death,' and everyone will burst into laughter.

"The most interesting thing I found out was with his stand up he doesn't have a script, he doesn't write anything, he genuinely makes it up on the spot and that's really unusual."

What We Did On Our Holiday is due to be released in cinemas on September 26.
