JOHN Godber's time-less play Bouncers has been given a re-boot ... a 'spanking’ new version by one-time Brookside and accomplished stage and screen writer Maurice Bessman.

Maurice created the critically acclaimed anti-violence play for schools called Terriers

The aptly-titled Boisterous Theatre Company here live up to their name with a four-hander bursting with energy, invention, laugh-out-loud jokes, stunning choreography and vocals of the highest order.

This Bouncers, directed superbly by Miriam Mussa, is a non-stop adrenalin rush.

A tour-de-force of collective and individual performances from Zain Salim (Ralph); Trevor Dwyer (Judd); Marlon G Day and Joe Speare as the philosophical Lucky Eric.

The cast of 'Bouncers'

Zain is top notch in his other role as movement director while there are exceptional vocal arrangements from Tayo Akinbode.

The various tales of four bouncers or 'door supervisors' of differing IQs and personalities is a big hit across the country and especially in Liverpool where it has always enjoyed huge success at the main Royal Court.

This cast use a minimum of props notably a few chairs playing in front of an easy-on-the-eye ivy-covered brick wall.

Lighting and atmospheric disco music add to the appeal of this pulsating production.

It sits well in the new 150-seater Court studio downstairs with cabaret-styled seating.

This adaptation sees this multi-talented fab four playing nearly 30 roles from convincing girls and lads on boozy nights out.

Usually, we see Bouncers sporting tuxedos.

Here they wear black shirts and have compulsory security training badges stuck to their arms.

A nice touch in a tight, breath-less two-hour show that includes the ever-present use of selfies and cameos of two hooray Henrys called Boris and Jacob.

A sharp script and four very likeable lads make this a must see experience.

A celebration of astonishing talent at work.

If you have enjoyed a version of Bouncers before I can guarantee you haven't seen one quite like this.

Full-on fantastic - five stars

Bouncers is at the Royal court until May 12.
