MADNESS are to be the headline act during three nights of music at Tranmere Rovers' ground next year.

The band, famous for hits such as One Step Beyond, Baggy Trousers and House Of Fun, will perform on the first night of three days of concerts 'Wirral Live' at Prenton Park which will take place from May 19-21.

Formed in 1976, the band was most successful in the early to mid 1980s. It spent 214 weeks on the UK singles charts over the course of the decade.

Their new top-five album, Can't Touch Us Now, was released earlier this year.

Looking ahead to next year's show at Prenton Park, Tranmere Rovers' co-owner Nicola Palios said: "We are really excited to have Prenton Park host such a globally recognisable name as Madness for Wirral Live.

"The event will be vitally important for the Club, Wirral tourism and local businesses"

Peter Shaw, the club's chief operating officer, said "Announcing Madness a week after their brilliant performance on X Factor final is fantastic for the Club.

"Having the double Ivor Novello award winners perform at Wirral Live will put Prenton Park firmly on the map as a venue that can attract music lovers and artists alike."

Rovers' season ticket holders can access pre-sale tickets for Madness at Wirral Live, with tickets on general sale from 9am tomorrow.

They will be available from www.seetickets.com.

Details of acts for the other nights of Wirral Live will be announced early in the New Year.
