THE Port Sunlight Players stage their production of The lion, the witch and the wardrobe next month.

Based on the fantasy novel by CS Lewis, and set during the Second World War bombings of London, it is the tale of Lucy, Edmund, Susan and Peter, who are sent to a country house where they will be safe.

One day Lucy finds a wardrobe that transports her to a magical world called Narnia, where the White Witch has ruled for 100 years of winter.

Along the way they meet characters Aslan the lion, Mr Tumnus the fawn and Mr and Mrs Beaver.

The story has been told on film many times.

The Chronicles of Narnia, made in 2010, featured Hollywood action man Liam Neeson as Aslan.

An animated version of the tale was made in 1979.

The lion, the witch and the wardrobe will be staged at the Gladstone Theatre in Greendale Road, Port Sunlight, from December 2-4.

Performances start at 7.30pm, with 2.30pm matinees on Saturday and Sunday.

Tickets for the show, £8, are from the Gladstone Theatre’s box office on 643 8757 or online at gladstonetheatre.org.uk
