I have interviewed two Beatles. I have edited books about them and even written a play about our Fab Four.

The band who, according to George Harrison, saved the world from boredom are alive and kicking.

I am still a fan. Always will be.

The packed out audience agree.

I bought Sgt Pepper with my pocket money and then saw Willy Russell's play John, Paul, George, Ringo and Bert at the Everyman.

Life was never the same. Beatle dramas come and go and each one has something different to say.

The latest production on the creative conveyor belt concentrates on John Lennon. And it is at the Epstein (Eppy) Theatre for two weeks.

If features the music and lyrics of John Lennon and Lennon and McCartney.

Daniel Taylor is a denim-clad John and Stewart D'Arrietta is his piano accompaniest.

Written and directed by John Waters it is an international hit already.

Yoko Ono has given it the thumbs up. New York theatregoers loved it.

It is a monologue.

End of story.

It has 31 songs some ambridged.

The Lennon songbook is beautifully brought to life.

Acoustic Lennon classics make you smile and sigh in equal measure.

Crippled inside, How do you sleep? and Jealous guy are highlights in a showcase that makes us all realise what a genius John was.

Any play, musical or film that reminds us of their influence on the soundtrack of our lives is welcome.

A few songs here could hit the cutting room floor and a bit more of John's legendary humour would not go amiss.

That said, this interpretation of a slice of his life - the story of the working class hero - cannot fail to stir and shake the emotions.

John would have liked that.

A new twist of Lennon - four stars.

It's at the Epstein until April 29. Tickets from the box office on 0844 888 4411.
