THE world premiere of a play following adventures of four fictional felines will be staged at the Unity Theatre in Liverpool tonight.

Moggies the Musical features the tales of Merseyside writer Cathy Roberts.

Cathy - who runs New Brighton’s Literally ..A Bookshop - told the adventures of the moggies to her nephew and niece some 15 years ago, but had no idea how popular they would become.

She has teamed up with critically acclaimed Birkenhead-born writer and producer Brian McCann for Moggies the Musical, which can be seen from this Thursday to Saturday, April 14 to April 16.

The stories have been heard on BBC Radio Merseyside for the past four years.

Cathy has teamed up with Birkenhead-based Brian McCann writer, composer and director for Moggies.

Brian said: "The Moggies have been a firm favourite for listeners to Maureen Walsh's show on Radio Merseyside for the past four years.

"It's been a pleasure working alongside Cathy and Wirral Globe columnist Peter Grant, who provided much of the inspiration for the songs.

"We created a great team to produce what promises to be a fantastic premier of this new show."

"I hope the audience enjoys the adventures of the fab furry four and laugh along with their Tomcat tales aided by some fine new songs making you feeline groovy."

The Mersey Moggies, made up of Dutch, Lefty, Moose and Mo, were born when Cathy was living in Liverpool's Lark Lane more than 15 years ago.

As well as creating personalities and lives for the four felines, Cathy also created a whole host of pals for them to socialise with as well as a restaurant called Ling's Feline Fine Diner.

Cathy's stories tell of their adventures across the river via the ferry, attracting interest from "both sides of the water."
