CRAIG Ogden promises to bring a Taste of Brazil to Wirral when he returns for the 27th international guitar festival next month.

The virtuoso Australian musician - who has four times topped Classic FM's album charts in the last few years - will perform live with the Liverpool Mozart Orchestra at the Floral Pavilion in New Brighton on November 7.

He has won rave reviews for his previous performances, appeared on Merseyside with the LMO in the same festival last year giving a stunning account of the famous Rodrigo guitar concerto.

This year he brings a Latin-American feel accompanied by the orchestra in the guitar concerto by Brazilian composer Villa Lobos as well as promising a couple of extra treats at the concert for guitar fans.

The concert starts at 7.30pm, but early arrivals will also have the opportunity at 6.45pm to hear a pre-concert talk and interview with Craig Ogden and conductor Mark Heron.

In addition to Craig, the orchestra will be offering a second, unusual Villa Lobos composition, Bachianas Brasileiras for no less than eight solo cellos, as well as Beethoven's dramatic and popular symphony No 3, The Eroica.

Taking place from November 5-28, the guitar festival will be staged at the Floral Pavilion in New Brighton, the historic Birkenhead Priory and Williamson Art Gallery in Oxton.

It features a mix classical, folk, jazz, blues and rock music - showing the versatility and prowess of the guitar casts illumination and beauty as well as power and emotion.

Also appearing are Paul Jones and the Blues Band there will also be appearances from former Frankie Goes to Hollywood guitarist Brian 'Nasher' Nash, Nils Lofgren, folk star Ralph McTell and Ricky Ross from Deacon Blue.

Also appearing are the late Ian Dury's band The Blockheads and Tony Remy & The Stolen Clones.

Local acts include Wirral Ukulele Orchestra, Gary Murphy, returning with his Guitar Legends show, and folk group Phil Chisnall Band. There will also be series of tribute shows for Wirral musician Brendan McCormack, a regular performer in the festival, who died in 2009.
