ART Garfunkel returns to the Liverpool Philharmonic Hall later this year as part of his comeback tour.

The iconic American singer, songwriter and actor will perform at the Hope Street venue for the first time in 12 years on September 16 in a show entitled An Intimate Evening with Art Garfunkel.

The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame member and diamond-selling artist had taken time off to recover from a vocal ailment and made a return to the live circuit last year.

He said "The voice is back. I'm in flight again. I believe I have grown through adversity. A new creation has emerged that is truly exciting me - my stage show."

Art will be touring the US and Japan throughout the next few months and his Liverpool visit is one of a handful of UK dates.

He said recently: "I feel like 26. I worked to get the voice back … I have been singing since I was five; it’s my best friend. I’m married to singing and its problems.

"The voice left me and now that it's back, I am so grateful."

Blessed with what the New York Times described as a "beautiful countertenor," Garfunkel has made an indelible mark on the music world as both a solo artist and half of the unrivaled Simon & Garfunkel.

He has also enjoyed a successful film career, published a book of poetry and released 12 original solo albums, the most recent being Some Enchanted Evening in 2007, plus a 2-CD compendium of his full body of work The Singer.

Tickets for show at the Liverpool Philharmonic (£35) go on sale to the venue’s priority booking members on Wednesday, January 28 and general sale at 10am on Friday, January 30. They are available from 0151 709 3789.
