BANDS from both sides of the River Mersey will take part in a summer music festival in New Brighton next week.
The line-up for the Saturday, July 18 gig - which will be staged on the bandstand in Vale Park - includes Misery Guts, Rumjig, Ragz, Sonny, The Sons, Teller, Jack Evans and The Chris Stewart Band. Also on the bill are The Shabangs, The Cubical and The Sensorites.
Now in its fourth year, the festival is organised by Wallasey-based Mark Stedmond, a solo performer who also goes by the name of Spacekid and will perform on the day.
The singer and guitarist, who is a former member of Wirral band Zuko, told the Globe: ”I'd always wanted to create a free music event for the community and, apart from one year when the rain poured down, the event’s always gone down very well and the atmosphere’s always good.
"I got in touch with a lot of the bands on Myspace, asking whether there was anyone interested in taking part. I had a great response, with a lot of interest.
"The festival has something for everybody and is for all ages. Hopefully the sun will come out too.
So bring a deckchair, come along, chill out and enjoy an afternoon of good music. It takes a lot of time to organise, but is well worth it."
Mark would not disclose the true identity of the man behind the pig, but said: "Every time I perform a magical pigman appears and chaos ensues. Even at the photoshoot for the pictures for this article a small magical piglet appeared.
"It's actually a mate of mine, but I wouldn’t want to ruin the mystery for him or the audience."
Entry to the gig, which runs from 1.30pm-7.30pm, is free.
