FIFTEEN budding singers are on their way to the final of a Globe-backed music competition and you could join them.
Open to budding singers aged 16 and upwards, round five of ROMP Comp will be held at the Royal Oak in Liscard this Saturday, June 27, from 11am. At stake is a chance to get your name on an international music stage.
With closed X-Factor style auditions in front of a panel of industry professionals, you will need to have that raw talent and power to turn heads with an accapella performance that sets you apart from everyone else.
Auditions have taken place once a month since January, with the winners of each heat going through to the semi final on September 26 to fight for a place in the final which will be staged at the Floral Pavilion Theatre Theatre and Conference Centre, New Brighton, in November.
Organiser Michelle Billington told the Globe: "ROMP is going well and I’m very excited about the final in November 2009.
"The contestants entering have been amazing, as each month goes by more and more people are getting involved, there is a special vibe around ROMP because it's a community project and people just want to get involved as a contestant or part of the team.
"I want ROMP to be a place in the future for our local community to go when looking to break into the music industry, there is nothing like ROMP around and will soon be one of the biggest events based on the Wirral, we need talent shows like ROMP in our city how else are we going to find the next Elvis Costello who was from Birkenhead or artist who could be as big as the Beatles this is a community project for local people.
"Watch this space, because I promise you that in the near future we will have a star. If the community gets behind projects like this we will see contestants out there performing in front of thousands, making albums and the main thing surviving and making a living do what they love best."
The winner will receive a £1000 cash prize, a full make-over, photoshoot and a day in Seven Waves Radio with air time. They will also land a possible recording contract.
Michelle Billington continued: "The talent that has come thru the door so far has blown us away, Leanne Sweeney and Oyana Walsh have already been in the recording studio with Ste Cocky Lee Butler who released the track Rock The Dance floor with Clubland producer Kenny Henry and Marc Kenny known as Northern All Stars."
The record will also be played on Leasowe-based Seven Waves Radio and the winner will be pampered with a makeover courtesy of Beau Belle Beauty Parlour, as well as an outfit designed by Neil Cooper of Wallasey-based Repooc. The prize includes a professional photo shoot from Buz Magazine plus £1000.
