New Year's resolution, anyone? Mine is exactly the same as it was last year - that is, I'm resolved to making no resolutions. There's seems little point, as despite my long-avowed intention to lose a few pounds, the chocolate digestives have so far proved irresistible.
2008 began, in this household, with a marathon gardening session. A long trellis had collapsed, and last year's efforts to shore it up had proved futile. Faced with an impenetrable tangle of thorny climbing roses, clematis and honeysuckle, which had also been invaded by convolvulus, all we could do was prune everything back very hard and pull out the old trellis completely.
We are left with an area of bare, trampled soil and some rather sorry looking stumpy plants. We're also left with a humungous pile of gardening debris which won't fit in the recycling bin and yet is too sappy to burn. Ah well, it seems our resident hedgehogs have been granted a new, temporary hotel.
