Wirral's very own Young Poet Laureate 2008 will be elected at Wallasey Town Hall on Friday, 30th November. Britain's only other Young Poet Laureate is in Birmingham. The purpose of creating this role is to raise the profile of young people's poetry on the Wirral peninsula.

The Wirral Young Poet Laureate will be invited to write and read poems for civic, public and private events.

Jo Bell, the reigning Cheshire Poet Laureate, will be choosing Wirral's Young Poet Laureate 2008 from these finalists.

A competition for Wirral Junior Poet has also been held, and the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Poets will be announced on the same evening, which begins at 18.00 hrs.

Anyone wishing to attend this event should contact the Wirral Academy of Arts at wirral.2008@ntlworld.com.

Riverside Writers next meet at 7.30pm-7.30pm on November 26th, in West Kirby Library within The Concourse. This month's project was to create a poem or short story beginning with, "I'm an aubergine," said (name). "What are you?" If that doesn't get creative imaginations flowing, nothing will!

Visitors are always welcome at this lively and informal writing group, who have seen a recent influx of new members.
