The vet gave us six tranquilisers to help our West Highland Terrier through Guy Fawkes Night, as fireworks send her into a blind panic - hyperventilation and a heart attack through sheer terror is a real possibility for her. The tranquilisers made her very sleepy and worked well. If I it was left to me, I'd ban the celebration altogether. Even properly organised public events, sited in parks or on beaches, for example, cause pointless panic amongst wildlife. Here on Wirral, people are asked not to walk their dogs or ride horses along the tide-line at this time of the year, as this can disturb migrating birds. Why, then, bombard the same critters with ear-splitting volleys of explosives?

What people should remember is that Guy fawkes is on November 5th, not the 3rd, 4th, 6th, 7th or just on Friday or Saturday nights.

Its a great British tradition of ours which shouldn't be banned on the 5th November, but I agree that it should be banned on every other night of the year unless a licence is sought from the police for special occassions such as the olympics etc.

We have a dog that doesn't like bangs, we could live with the fact that on one evening a year we could close the windows & turn the radio on in the kitchen to mask the noise but the problem lies with people picking an evening themselves instead of celebrating guy fawkes on the 5th Nov giving us 2 or 3 weeks worth of noise.

We've just had local immigrants celebrating Divali in our area and firing off fireworks, this affects hundreds of indigenous Brits & there animals & shouldn't be tolerated!

I say have your fun on November the 5th as its part of our history but thats it!
