KNUTSFORD’S best male players were on the wrong end of a ruthless 11-goals drubbing at table-toppers Urmston on their return to action at the weekend.
HOCKEY: Knutsford suffer heavy defeat
They perhaps wished the snow had stayed on the ground a little longer.
Tris Baddeley was on target for the visitors as they reached the halfway point of the first half at 1-1, but they capitulated after that to trail 6-2 at the interval.
Baddeley grabbed the other goal too.
Knutsford, who remain rooted to the foot of North League Division Two West after losing all but two of their matches to date, were unable to cope with Urmston’s goals-hungry front line.
The fact that keeper Simon McCoy picked up the Player of the Match prize tells its own story.
Mat Hodge’s men will hope for better fortune when they host fourth-placed Liverpool Sefton at Knutsford Leisure Centre on Saturday, push back 2.15pm.
All other matches scheduled for Knutsford’s teams last weekend were postponed.
The teams, men and women, have resumed training after the winter break.
The latter train, as do the juniors, from 7pm every Tuesday at the leisure centre, while the men follow at the same venue from 8pm.
