Sheila Catherine Hetherington

SHEILA CATHERINE HETHERINGTON 20th April 2018 Aged 90 years Peacefully, surrounded by the love of her children and the tender care of Nazareth House. Beloved wife of Jim who predeceased her by 3 months, adored mother of Claire, Agnes, Phil, Margie, John, Peter and Paul. Devoted grandmother of 7 and great grandmother of 2. Lifelong best friend of Maisie Doyle. Sheila was born in Liverpool to Agnes (Queenie) and Hugh Kenny, elder sister of Hugh and Alphonsus Kenny. She was educated at Broughton Hall and Liverpool College of Art. During her brief postwar career in the Ministry of Supply she met and married Jim Hetherington. Her life was dedicated to the care of her family and defined by her profound Catholic faith. As artist, poet and theologian she put these gifts at the service of English Martyrs parish in Wallasey, and she lived her faith actively, devoting countless hours to supporting the housebound and others in crisis through her community work with the SVP. She was also a much loved guide to many people seeking to deepen their faith through the RCIA. All this service was enlivened by her warm, self-deprecating sense of humour. Sheila was a modest, humble woman whose gentle words and actions changed lives for the better. Requiem mass at Holy Apostle & Martyrs Church, Wallasey on Thursday 3rd May at 12 noon followed by burial at Frankby Cemetery at 2 p.m. Family flowers only please but donations if desired to Nazareth House, Birkenhead.
