IT’S time to nominate your unsung hero for Wirral’s Golden Globe Awards.

Do you know someone who goes the extra mile for others?

Maybe they're a neighbour who goes out of their way to make your life a little easier, or perhaps a young hero who shows courage or bravery.

They might be the best mum or dad, despite setbacks or adversity, or maybe they have made a real difference to their local community?

No matter what the reason, we want you to nominate your community champions.

Tears and laughter are sure to be shared when we celebrate the borough's unsung heroes at our annual awards ceremony.

Wirral Golden Globes - now in their third year - are a chance to heap praise on those who make a difference and recognise their efforts.

The glittering awards ceremony, which takes place on Thursday, November 27, at the Floral Pavilion, New Brighton, is a chance to celebrate the achievements of our community champions in Wirral and we need you to help us find them.

Details of how to nominate can be found at the end of this article or by visiting our dedicated Golden Globes section here.

This year's categories are:

  • Young Hero of the Year
  • Neighbour of the Year
  • Friend of the Year
  • Contribution to Community
  • Parent of the Year
  • Outstanding Bravery
  • Adult learner of the Year

Local Sportsperson of the Year Last year's glittering event saw a whole host of celebrities from the world's of stage, screen and music turn out to pay tribute to Wirral's heroes.

BBC Radio Merseyside presenter Roger Lyon - who hosted the evening last year and ensured everything ran without a hitch - will be making a welcome return to hosting duties this year too.

Stars including pop singer Sonia, former members of the legendary Liverpool group the Scaffold, Mike McCartney and John Gorman, actor and presenter Dean Sullivan, actress Eithne Brown, comedian Stan Boardman, renowned journalist and Globe columnist Peter Grant, and actress Suzanne Collins all made an appearance last November.

And this year's event is shaping up to rival last year as plans are already underway to secure support from big household names.

Firm favourites including Wirral country music legend Charlie Landsborough will be showing their support and we will be revealing further names in the coming weeks.

Editor Leigh Marles said: "We're thrilled to be bringing the Globes back again to recognise Wirral's many unsung heroes."

Once again, we're proud to be backing our local children's hospice Claire House and will be donating money raised on the night to the Bebington-based charity.

The hospice reaches out to local families during their hour of need and also provides vital respite care for children and young adults with complex medical needs and so it is only fitting that we pick them as our chosen charity for a third time.

Pat Faragher, director of fundraising at Claire House, said; “For the third year in a row, the Wirral Globe have got behind local families who really need that extra support, by choosing Claire House Children’s Hospice as its chosen charity for the Wirral Golden Globe Awards.

"The is always such a wonderful event to be a part of; celebrating the amazing achievements within the Wirral community and a chance to thank Wirral Globe readers who have supported our charity throughout the year.

“Everyone at Claire House is thoroughly looking forward to being a part of the event and having the chance to tell the community what their support has meant to seriously ill children in the area.”
