TRANMERE Rovers' boss Rob Edwards has made his seventh signing of the summer after Danny Woodards agreed a six-month contract with the club.

The versatile defender has spent the past two weeks on trial at Prenton Park, playing in the pre-season friendly draws against Everton and Bolton Wanderers.

Woodards, 30, began his career at Chelsea before making his professional debut at Exeter City in 2005.

He joined Crewe Alexandra in 2007 and, after a spell at MK Dons, spent the last three seasons at Bristol Rovers. He has made more than 300 career appearances.

Rob Edwards said: "Danny has really impressed me over the past fortnight.

"He's come in, trained well and shown how versatile he is in our friendlies, playing in the centre of midfield, left back and right back and he can also play centre back as well.

“He is a talented player who is very capable of playing in the league above and has fitted in really well here.”

Woodards will be available for selection for the opening day of the 2014-15 season on Saturday, August 9, when Tranmere host York City at Prenton Park, kick off 3pm.
