PRENTON Park was invaded by Vikings - Norwegian football supporters - for Friday night's victory over Chesterfield.
More than 100 fans from all over Norway, including this group (above) from Sarpsborg, Southern Norway, took advantage of cheap flights to visit Birkenhead.
Wirral's own Viking expert and lifelong Tranmere fan, Professor Steve Harding, of Nottingham University, said: "Tranmere is the only club in the English League with a Norwegian Viking name (Tranmere was founded by Viking settlers over 1,000 years ago as Tran-melr meaning 'sandbank with the cranebirds or herons').
"Norwegians, who love English football, are starting to realise. I tell all my Norwegian friends they should support Tranmere . . . maybe the penny - or kronor - is starting to drop!"
