A THIRD man has been arrested following a fatal stabbing in Ellesmere Port.

At around 8.20pm on Wednesday, May 1, police were called to reports that a man had been assaulted on Summertrees Road, Ellesmere Port.

Officers attended the scene, and it is believed at this stage that the victim was stabbed.

He was treated by paramedics at the scene before being taken to the Countess of Chester Hospital where he died.

The victim has been confirmed as 34-year-old Lloyd Velasquez from Ellesmere Port.

His family have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers at this time.

Enquiries in relation to the incident have been ongoing throughout the night, and it is now believed that the victim was assaulted by three men who were known to him.

Two men were initially arrested in relation to the incident, a 19-year-old man and a 21-year-old man, both from Ellesmere Port.

Cheshire Police have now confirmed that a third man, a 20-year-old from Ellesmere Port, has now also been arrested on suspicion of murder. 

Chief Superintendent Jon Betts said: “We would like to reassure the local community that this is believed to be an isolated incident.

“I understand the concern that this is likely to cause, but we would like to assure residents that this type of incident is incredibly rare in Cheshire. There will be extra patrols conducted in the area to provide reassurance and anyone with any concerns is urged to speak to an officer.

“As part of the investigation we’re still keen to hear from anyone who was in the area and witnessed what took place. The same goes for anyone with any CCTV or dashcam footage.”
